Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy - Earth Edition
Surfed onto a collaborative project started by Douglas Adams at the BBC website over the weekend. The h2g2 attempts to explain Life, The Universe and Everything online by enlisting the help of members of the public as researchers and encouraging us to contribute articles on anything that takes our fancy, that we may know something about, or that we find interesting.

The results is already a vast database on almost any topic, place or person you care to mention. Some articles are a completely humourous, whilst others are really quite detailed and enlightening.

There goes something else to the add to my list of "Things that have already been done on the Internet by somebody else."

Cane Toad Racing - Now Helen and John have gone, we've ust been thinking back to our holiday up in Queensland. One night we went to a place called the Iron Bar to watch the weekly Cane Toad Racing. Cane Toads were introduced into Australia from South America, in an attempt to rid the country of the plague of the Cane Beatles, which I think were devastating the sugar crops at the time.

Unfortunately, the toads left the beatles alone, but reproduced at incredible rates and did far more damage by killing all sorts small animals with their highly toxic defence mechanism emitted from the sides of their throats. Oops.

Anyway the racing involved letting around six of the little mights onto a tabletop and then see watch one falls off the table first! Not very PC, but good fun all the same.

Great Barrier Reef




We arrived back fron Port Fouglas up in Queensland last Thursday. What a fantastic time we all had, the highlight obviously being the trip to the Great Barrier Reef which met all of our expectations. However, the 1 1/2 hour ride to get there was a bit of a trial, with all the girls having to use paper bags provided on a couple of occassions.

We're already planning our next trip.
