Ode to Joseph Ward

Joseph Ward
O My Lord
He's staying full board
Joseph Ward

Getting the hang of this parenting lark now, change nappy/feed then get your head down for a couple of hours. Repeat thoughout day and night.

Just a quick note whilst Joseph and Vic are fast asleep. They both came home safely last night and we spent our first restless night here at Goodhope Street. To make matters worse, next door's house alarm went off last night during one of our quieter moments. It's going to take a bit of getting use to, but on the whole Joseph has been really good and settling down quite quickly. I must admit it sometimes only seems five minutes since the last feed/nappy change before the next one is due.

We managed to get some more medication from the pharmacy which has eased Vic's soreness quite a bit and we have also received some lovely flowers from Xpedite and from Helen and John which are also cheering us up. I made a special mission to the chocolate shop yesterday to get some hand-made chockies from "Just William" which is a bit like an Australian version of Thorntons.

Now Joseph is the grand old age of 4 days, he is starting to look a bit more like me, Vic says the likeness is uncanny - but I wouldn't go that far. Will take some more pictures soon and then you can make your own mind up.

Can't avoid the news about the war, but it's really the last thing you want to hear about and so have to ration ourselves to a couple of minutes a day.

Back from the hospital and just getting ready for Vic and Joseph to come back home tommorrow. We went to all of the classes today including settling techniques and bathing - all very useful. We managed to get a bit of video with Joseph in the bath, you can download it here although it may take a few minutes to download.

Went into work today, and everything seems under control which is great, will be able to relax ( sort of! ) for the rest of the week. Ahhhhh.

Back home again and just about to go to bed to get some rest for another day back at the hospital tommorrow. It's slowly started to sink in - and I'm so pleased and relieved that everything went OK and we have a beautiful baby boy. Vic and Joseph have both seemed a bit more settled today with Joe getting a lot more sleep and feeding well and Vic feeling a little bit more comfortable, they both did so well.

Will take the week off work this week I think, today I've hardly thought about work at all, which is a first for me. So much more important things to think about.

Shane and Tammy came visiting to the hospital this evening with their baby Bianca which was really nice and thoughtful.

Thinking about everyone back at home, it's been really nice to speak to Mum and Dad and Helen and Anne and Geoff over the past few days. I hope the pictures and these updates make you all feel as you are here with us - we are thinking about you all constantly - in a happy way!

Hope you had a nice holiday Jane - look forward to speaking to you soon, and you Uncle Andy.

Not much to report here, we were going to go out last night to celebrate the weekend/pay day but Victoria was feeling a bit under the weather and uncomfortable and so I just went up the road and got a monster Thai takeaway instead. We watched Something About Mary again on the Tv - very funny.

We're keeping up with all the news on the Orange Ananova web site which is pretty good. Comic Relief looks like it will be a good one this year.

Have been reading about the Wales/Scotland matcha nd the France/Ireland match. I bet the match today will be fantastic. Am enjoying the final rounds of the Cricket World Cup, Australia look pretty good - I can't see anybody beating them.

We went to go and see "Solaris" at the pictures yesterday. Was OK, Vicky burst into hysterical giggling when she saw George Clooney's bum that went on for about ten minutes.

Went to the dentist today for a check-up and a clean. It's always a bit distubring when they take an X-ray. they put the lead coat on you then leg it out of the room whilst you get zapped with the rays. No problems though, and now I'm Mr Clean Teeth.

We washed the baby clothes today to make them nice and soft. It seemed really strange taking them out of the dryer and folding them up on the table. It was almost like they belonged to someone else. We didn't bother ironing them, which gave Vic and idea for a name - Crumplestiltskin!

Good news about Jane's new house - can't wait to see some photo's. We are about to get our house valued and upt on the market I think.

Everything is Ok here, we went to go and see the obstetrician last Monday and he seems to think all is going to plan and the baby has started it's journey down the "passage of life". He looks like he could be a big `un though which made Vic's eyes water a little.

Ah well - we can only wait and see....

Gay Mardi Gras in Sydney today and the whole thing parades down Oxford Street, which is just at the top of the road. Quite a spectacle, although this year we decided to watch it on TV rather than in the flesh so to speak. The Dykes on Bikes were there along with Saddam Hussein and his weapon of Mass Seduction.

Will maybe try to get into Gangs of New York again today, could be the last time we go to pictures for some time!

Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could; some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; you shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.
